What to do if sneakers get wet

Once you get home, you need to take off your shoes, put on woolen socks and drink hot tea. After that, you can begin to save the sneakers. To get started, remove the insoles from the shoe, remove the laces. In principle, you can immediately start drying, but it is best to wash your sneakers first. If this is not done, an unpleasant odor may appear inside the sneakers even after they have completely dried.

You can wash sneakers manually or in a typewriter. If you wash your shoes in a machine, choose a temperature not higher than 40 degrees so as not to lose the bright color of the shoes. When washing suede sneakers, add fabric softener to the detergent powder - it will give the suede softness so that it does not stand "stake". When setting the washing mode, turn off the Spin function. The mechanical action of high amplitude can change the shape of the shoe. It is best to wash sneakers and any other shoes in a special bag.

For hand washing, you will need a basin, a little detergent (powder or soap) and a brush. Prepare a soap solution from warm water and dip shoes into it. Carefully brush along the outside and inside of the shoe. Rinse the sneakers thoroughly and leave them in the bathroom so that water drains from them. Wash insoles and laces separately. When the water stops flowing from the sneakers, you can start drying them.

In no case should sneakers be dried on heating devices - batteries, radiators. How to dry sneakers

  1. Newspapers. This is the most optimal and effective way to dry your shoes. Take the old newspapers you read, put them in a lump and fill them with shoes inside. The newspaper absorbs moisture well. The newspaper needs to be changed every 2-3 hours to dry.If there is absolutely no time for drying, the outside of the shoe can also be wrapped with newspaper to speed up the process. Glossy magazines cannot be used - such paper does not absorb, but repels water. Instead of newspapers, you can use toilet paper. It’s not worth stuffing sneakers with paper towels, they immediately become sap and fall apart, it will be difficult to clean the inside of the shoe after such drying. It should be noted that newspaper drying is only suitable for colored and dark shoes. Printing socks may remain on white sneakers.
  2. Salt. It is an excellent absorbent that absorbs moisture. Heat a little salt in a pan or in the microwave. Pour salt into a cloth bag and place it in shoes. As it cools, the salt will absorb moisture and dry the inside of the shoe. When the salt becomes wet, it must again be dried on the battery directly in the bag, or pour the salt into the pan.
  3. Silica gel. Surely, when buying new shoes or bags, you met a bag with transparent balls in a box. These balls are designed to absorb excess moisture. Silica gel can be bought in large quantities at a hardware store or pick up a whole bunch when buying new shoes. Silica gel is placed in a rag bag and in shoes. When it absorbs moisture, it is dried on the battery and again placed in shoes. This is a very effective procedure that can dry sneakers in a few hours.
  4. Hair dryer. Use household appliances in the fight for dry shoes. Turn the hair dryer on to cold air so as not to melt the surface. Keep the hair dryer at a distance of 10-15 cm from the shoe, direct the air stream directly inward, protruding the tongue of the shoe.
  5. A vacuum cleaner. This is another useful household appliance that can dry your shoes in a short time. Lower the pipe of the vacuum cleaner to the very depth of the shoe and turn on the appliance. With a powerful jet, it draws in moist air, draining the shoe.
  6. Towel. Take a small kitchen towel and stuff them with a sneaker. Mahra absorbs moisture perfectly. Change your padding to dry as often as possible so that the sneakers dry out quickly.
  7. Fig. This is another effective adsorbent that removes moisture from the inside of the shoe.
  8. Cat litter. Let this drying method seem a little strange to you, but the filler is designed for this - to absorb moisture. Pour some filler into the shoes and wait until it becomes wet. Change the filler until the sneakers are completely dry.

Remember that natural fabrics and suede very easily change their shape when wet. Therefore, such sneakers should not be stuffed too tight so that they do not expand after drying.

Special shoe dryers

If there is demand, there will be supply, the law of the market says. If people need to quickly dry their shoes, then there is a special device for this. The electric shoe dryer is two shoe-shaped shoe heaters that are powered by electricity. You just plug the appliance into the mains and put the pads on the shoes. The temperature for drying is optimal so as not to dry out and burn shoes. Modern models of shoe dryers work on the basis of ultraviolet radiation. It dries sneakers faster, and also disinfects the inner surface of the shoe from fungus.
