How to properly care for leather gloves

A stylish and expensive accessory - leather gloves always require a special attitude. With proper care, they can serve the owner for many years. At the same time, they will remain in their original form. How to care for leather gloves? What to do so that they do not lose their gloss? Let's get it together.

How to care for leather gloves

Daily care

We recommend taking the habit of daily cleaning leather gloves from dust. This is best done with a soft cloth or rag. In order not to contaminate the seams, you can treat them with a brush of low or medium hardness.

Why daily? Because the dust gradually eats into the seams and pores of the skin. Then more serious cleaning is required. And why create unnecessary problems for yourself when you can spend just a couple of minutes a day on leaving?

Tip. Some people are too lazy to clean leather gloves. They just shake them hard, while pounding each other with all the dope. In principle, such a procedure is possible if you are 100% sure that your gloves will not burst from execution. Or do not crawl at the seams. But we would not recommend doing this. Dust from the seams is not going anywhere.

Weekly care

In order for leather gloves to retain their appearance for a long time, it is not enough just to periodically shake off dust from them. Wet cleaning is required once a week. No, not washing, namely cleaning. You will need:

  • pure water
  • liquid soap (not washing powder!)
  • glycerin or castor oil
  • cotton pads or light rags
  • dry soft tissue (microfiber) and a piece of rag
  • leather gloves
  • enthusiasm (easily replaced by habit)

The procedure is very simple. In a small container, a mild soapy solution should be introduced. A glove is put on one hand. With a second hand, a cotton pad (cloth) is moistened in a solution. Then, gently wipe the surface of the skin. As the cotton pad becomes dirty, they change to a clean one. The procedure is performed until the tissue or cotton pad stops getting dirty.

Now you need to carefully remove the remnants of soap from the skin. Do this with another piece of cloth dipped in clean water.

Tip. Wet processing should be carried out quickly enough. Otherwise, the skin is quickly saturated with soap through the pores. This does not apply to varnish gloves. But it is not recommended to wet them for a long time, otherwise the shine will disappear.

After all the washing procedures, we wipe the leather gloves with microfiber. Or any other fabric that absorbs moisture well. Leave to dry for a while. Strictly away from heaters and radiators. It is recommended not only to lay out gloves for drying, but to put them on a special shape in the form of a brush.

It is not necessary to acquire such a shape from plastic. You can independently twist from the wire a kind of palm with a stand. On it, the gloves dry out no worse than on the purchased one.

After drying, one more thing remains. It is necessary to soften and polish the skin so that it does not crack. To do this, we stocked up (see the list above) with glycerin and a piece of rag. We apply literally a drop of liquid to the fabric, rub it. And only then, with light movements, as if grease the entire surface of the gloves.

Tip. Do not pour liquid directly on gloves. Irreducible spots may remain on the skin.

After lubrication, it remains only to polish the surface thoroughly with a piece of rag. This is the end of care.

Heavy contamination care

Everything happens in life. And even leather gloves can become very dirty. Do not worry, they can still be saved. Of course, washing accessories made of leather is not recommended in principle, but sometimes you have to do it. You will need:

  • basin
  • pure water
  • liquid soap
  • thick towel

Washing leather gloves is easy, but you need to know some nuances. This is very important if you want to save them.

To begin with, you should remember that keeping leather gloves in water should be as small as possible. That is, the washing should take place quickly, and at the same time carefully.

The second important condition: leather gloves are washed only when put on hands. The fact is that the skin has one unpleasant property: under the influence of water, it stretches.

Tip. Leather gloves should not be rubbed and pinched like a rag! Wash them with movements, as if soaping their hands.

It is advisable to change soapy water several times, especially if the gloves are very dirty (for example, fell into the dirt). Otherwise, you will simply rub stains into the skin even more.

After you are satisfied with the result of washing, you will need to carefully rinse the gloves in clean, warm water. It’s better to do this without removing the gloves from your hands.

Then leather gloves, again without removing, gently pat with a thick towel. Not three! And lay out to dry away from the batteries. When the gloves are slightly dry, we put them on their uniforms and leave them to dry completely.

Next, take glycerin for fair skin or castor for dark skin, gently lubricate every millimeter of gloves. Knead the skin slightly if it is still dry or begins to warp. Then gently polish until a soft matte shine is obtained.

A few words about spots

Sometimes there are situations when dry cleaning or regular washing can not do. Spots appear. Do not panic or try to erase them this very minute.

Leather gloves care

The first thing you should do if possible is to blot the mark with a dry cloth. A handkerchief is also suitable. Just do not rub, namely blot! Otherwise, the skin will absorb the stain through the pores, and it will be very difficult to remove it.

Well, then choose any of the recipes below, and go, for cleaning.

Gloves made of fair skin can be easily removed from most types of stains in the old grandfather way. To do this, mix 50 ml of nonfat milk and 1 protein of a chicken egg. Then the resulting mixture is applied to the skin, left for several minutes. You can rub the stain slightly. This mixture does not require rinsing. It is washed with a dry cloth.

Most greasy stains are removed with gasoline or thinner. The cloth is moistened in the product and the dirt is removed with quick movements. Of course, do not forget to try before the procedure on the inside of the glove whether gasoline will ruin the skin or its color.

After treatment, it is recommended that the leather gloves be ventilated until the unpleasant odor disappears.

Spots of incomprehensible origin can be tried to remove ammonia from the skin. Only not in its pure form. It is required to dilute 1 part of ammonia in 4 parts of water. And with the mixture already obtained, rub the mark until it disappears completely. After cleaning, leather gloves do not wash. If necessary, lubricate with glycerin or castor oil.

By the way, some gloves have an inner lining. Here you can always wash it safely. If possible, the lining is stripped off and sewn after cleaning.

But some people manage to wash it without stripping it, just turning it out. If you clean leather gloves only from the outside, forgetting about the inside, then over time the lining starts to stink disgustingly. There is no longer up to beauty.
