Composition and benefits

Horseradish - a perennial vegetable that does not require special care, grows on Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian lands. Its taste is quite specific - sweet at first, then sugary bitterness forms in the mouth. Use horseradish when cooking dishes, marinades, in cosmetology.

Due to the high content in horseradish of ascorbin and vitamins C and PP, riboflavin and thiamine, a rich set of trace elements and metals (manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, magnesium and so on), it was used to treat colds, bronchitis, and diseases of the genitourinary system. Widely used in diabetes.

What is beneficial for the body:

  1. Horseradish helps to improve the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. When the function of peristalsis is upset, horseradish intake improves metabolic processes and improves the pancreas, forcing it to produce the necessary enzymes.
  2. It is a natural antibiotic. Phytoncides contained in the plant interfere with inflammatory processes and quickly cure colds.
  3. Blood sugar regulator. A systematic intake of horseradish allows diabetics to lower their sugar content and take less medication.
  4. A powerful diuretic. Washes stones, improving condition.
  5. Tidies up blood pressure, lowering it.

When diabetics can use horseradish

There are two types of diabetes:

  • insulin dependent;
  • non-insulin independent.

In case of insulin-dependent diabetes, insulin is constantly required to be introduced into the patient’s body, therefore horseradish will play only an auxiliary role. Taking horseradish dishes has a greater therapeutic effect in non-insulin-dependent diabetes, then the vegetable affects the pancreas, helping to produce more insulin.

Application features

Usually fresh leaves and roots are used, the old horseradish has less useful substances. Since there are a lot of sharp mustard oils in horseradish, there are contraindications for use. For example, if blood coagulates poorly or the stomach has an increased acidity. And without these factors, it’s nice to adhere to these rules:

  1. The use of concentrated juice is unacceptable. Instead of the expected effect, you can severely burn the stomach.
  2. Do not use old roots for treatment. After three to four days, therapeutic compounds disappear from them, and useful qualities disappear.
  3. If during the treatment process undesirable disorders (diarrhea, nausea) appear, then immediately use horseradish and go to the doctor to be examined.

It must be remembered that diabetes is dangerous with complications - renal activity is impaired, trophic ulcers form. Knowing this, use seasoning with caution.

The use of horseradish as a therapeutic agent

To prevent sugar from rising, it is enough to eat a large spoonful of grated root once a day, seizing the sugary taste of meat or fish dishes.Any vegetable oil will improve the taste of seasoning. To improve the taste of seasoning, you can use olive, sunflower or linseed oil. But one thing to keep in mind at the same time - horseradish not only speeds up metabolism, but also increases appetite. And an increase in diet can dramatically raise sugar.

The use of horseradish as a therapeutic agent

Horseradish with dairy products
The most popular way to use horseradish, which helps to avoid the consequences of trophic ulcers, is a mixture of grated horseradish with kefir, fermented baked milk, yogurt and other fermented milk products. The mixture is prepared according to this recipe:

  1. Using a grater or combine, the root is finely chopped.
  2. One glass of the fermented milk product at hand is added and mixed thoroughly.
  3. The container is covered with a lid and placed for 24 hours in a dark, non-hot place.

You need to take this tool two large spoons three times a day at the end of the meal. The course lasts 20-30 days. Then a ten-day break is made and treatment continues again.

Healing tincture
To prepare the medicine in the form of infusion, you need a fresh, large root. It is crushed, 1 liter of cold water is poured into the resulting slurry and stirred. The mixture is placed in a cold place and aged there for 12 hours. At the same time, the contents must be shaken constantly. Then two or three layers of gauze are taken and the contents of the container are filtered through them. It is recommended to take this drug twice a day for half a glass after a meal.
The lemon juice added to the glass will only enhance the healing effect of the tincture.

Bathtubs
With diabetes, blood circulation is often disturbed and disorders in the articular part occur, spinal and cervical chondrosis develops, causing suffering. It is possible to alleviate the patient’s condition, stop inflammation and reduce pain manifestations by taking baths, where the infusion cooked from horseradish leaves is added.

The algorithm for the treatment procedures is as follows:

  1. Young horseradish leaves are poured into a three-liter glass jar and rammed tightly.
  2. The jar is put for 15 days in a dark place, from time to time it needs to be shaken.
  3. A liter of the resulting infusion is added to the bath

The procedure should be carried out half an hour before going to bed (approximately), for two to three weeks.

Horseradish with beer
A popular and useful remedy used to treat both types of diabetes is horseradish with live beer. It is prepared as follows:

  • fresh root is taken;
  • washed (optional cleaning);
  • crushed, the resulting mixture is placed in a liter bottle;
  • nine pre-ground cloves of garlic are added.

Then a mixture of horseradish and garlic is poured with beer and infused for ten days in a dark place. When the tincture is ready, it is drunk according to the following scheme: two days three times a day for a teaspoon. The rest of the days: the dose is increased to three teaspoons, taken also - three times a day. You need to drink before meals. The duration of therapy is a month, after a week the therapeutic effect will be felt, sugar will return to normal.

Beetroot Horseradish
Here, chopped beets are added to the grated horseradish, with which the juice is completely squeezed. For half a kilogram of beets is 1 kilogram of horseradish. 50 grams of salt, a glass of nine percent vinegar and one hundred grams of sugar are added to the resulting mixture. All this is mixed and laid out in jars. It is consumed in small portions along with other dishes.

It must be remembered that horseradish only helps to cure diseases and does not replace traditional therapy. Therefore, you do not need to refuse medications prescribed by your doctor.

In-kind consumption
Horseradish can be used not only in the form of seasonings, tinctures and additives, but also in its natural form. Of course, it is worth consulting a doctor here - suddenly there are contraindications.

The roots and leaves of horseradish are added to different dishes - soups, pasta, casseroles.It is worth emphasizing - it is fresh vegetable that is added, the canned product does not contain the vitamins and useful substances necessary for the treatment.

And in order to consume the product in winter, horseradish can be frozen. The peeled roots are crushed into large pieces, placed in plastic bags and placed in the refrigerator.

From all of the above, one conclusion can be drawn - people suffering from diabetes mellitus can use horseradish, it has a good effect. The roots and leaves of this vegetable are recommended to be always nearby, because they improve well-being, especially for non-insulin-dependent diabetics.
