How to remove wax from clothes at home

Candles are a welcome addition to a romantic dinner, a celebration of Christmas or New Year, another event. But sometimes the evening ends with unpleasant consequences, drops of wax from a candle remain on clothes or a tablecloth. This raises the logical question of how to remove paraffin so that it does not spoil the product and leaves no residue? Let's get it together.

How to remove wax from clothes

Methods for removing wax from clothing

Experienced housewives know firsthand how difficult it is to get rid of wax if you do not have sufficient skills. Washing in this case will not help, since paraffin does not dissolve in water even under the influence of a powder. It is also important to consider the type of fabric.

Cotton or linen

  1. If the question arose regarding the cleansing of linen or cotton fabric, then be patient. Wax settles firmly between the fibers of a natural material, which greatly complicates the task.
  2. Before the main manipulations, study the manufacturer's recommendations, which are indicated on the product label. The fabric may not be ironable or there are some other tips. Make a start from them.
  3. Now, in order to eliminate paraffin, you need to take a napkin and an iron. You can proceed. Spread the item on a table or other flat surface; the dirt should be on the outside.
  4. Cover the spot with a paper towel or napkin, you can use an unnecessary cotton shred. Turn on the iron and iron the fabric for 25-30 seconds.
  5. Carefully lift the napkin, traces of wax should remain on it. If the stain has not completely disappeared, repeat the steps until the desired result is obtained.
  6. If after this wax remains on the clothes, place wipes on both sides, inner and outer. Iron and clean in the same way, evaluate the result.
  7. When the paraffin itself comes off, at the place of its presence, you can replace the greasy trace. Sprinkle it with salt and rub, shake, send the item to be washed in the machine or clean it by hand.

Synthetics

  1. Things made of synthetic material are not recommended to be exposed to high temperatures, so in most cases the use of an iron is unacceptable. But what to do in such a situation?
  2. Take a basin, pour hot water into it, arm yourself with a cloth or brush. Put clothes in a container, leave for 2-3 minutes. Remove, do not squeeze, carefully collect the wax to the center and dispose of it.
  3. Do not rub the paraffin contamination too much so that the heated wax does not penetrate deep into the fibers. If all is unsuccessful, soak a cotton sponge in turpentine and carefully remove the paraffin.

Leather

  1. The main advantage of leather things is that such products do not absorb pollution. Or partially absorb, which in any case facilitates the task.
  2. If you find a drop on your favorite handbag, pants or coat, send the item to the freezer for a while. When the wax hardens, you can easily remove it.
  3. If the influx is too extensive, fold the fabric at the site of contamination to allow the wax to crumble. Sweep it in any convenient way. Dampen a cotton pad in makeup lotion, wipe the residue.
  4. You can use a solvent, for example, acetone, turpentine or ammonia. Put a few drops on the sponge and wipe the grease stain from the candle.

Suede leather
Suede products look expensive and impressive, but require scrupulous care. There are several ways to remove wax from this material, let's look at them.

  1. The most effective steam cleaning. To do this, pour filtered water into the pan, boil, hold the product over steam for several minutes. When the wax melts without rubbing, remove it with a napkin.
  2. You can clean suede with turpentine, if available. Moisten a cosmetic sponge in the composition, apply to a wax stain and note the time. After a third of an hour, wash the product in warm water and rinse several times.
  3. Ammonia has the ability to dissolve wax, so they must be used. Mix 1 liter. pure water with 20 ml. ammonia, soak a cotton cloth in this liquid and gently rub the dirt from the edges to the center.
  4. Mix 45 ml. gasoline for refueling lighters with 30 ml. ammonia and 10 ml. medical alcohol. Soak a cosmetic disc with this solution and apply to the wax trail for 2 minutes. Carefully collect paraffin and wash clothes. The same composition is suitable for cleansing velvet fabric from wax.
  5. There is another easy way to remove paraffin from clothing. If you have alcohol at hand, soak a piece of fleece in it and apply to the wax for a third of an hour. Then, from the edges of the spot to the center, collect pollution.

Fur

  1. It is more difficult to remove adhering wax from fur products, but this does not mean that the task is impossible. Since the fur cannot be exposed to high temperatures, an iron and a napkin will not help.
  2. In this case, you need to use freezing. If it is winter outside, send the item to the balcony so that the wax freezes. In warm times, carry out manipulations by placing the thing for a while in the freezer.
  3. You can also rub the stain with ice cubes to create cold temperatures. When the paraffin hardens, start to remove it from the pile slowly and carefully.
  4. Similarly, you can remove paraffin from the surface of natural or artificial fur, velvet, suede, velor, other fabrics with a long or short pile.

Denim
In most cases, people prefer to wear denim because of the practicality of the fabric. Products are quite durable and easy to care for. If you stained your clothes with wax, it will not be difficult to solve the problem.

  1. In this case, you can resort to freezing and subsequent washing of the fabric. To do this, put the denim in a plastic bag and send it to the freezer. After a few hours, the wax can be easily scraped off and washed.
  2. If you don’t like the first method, you should first soak the denim product for a while. A similar procedure will get rid of wax stains. Make a solution of hot water and powder. After an hour, wash the thing in the typewriter.
  3. Not many people know that traces after wax can remain long enough. If you do not want to wash the product several times, you can resort to a little trick. Wipe stains with paraffin detergent for dishes. If the procedure does not help, repeat the steps. Then wash the item in a classic way.

Wool and silk

  1. Products made from delicate fabrics require special care. In this case, exclusively gentle methods should be used. Otherwise, wool or silk will irreparably deteriorate. Be prepared, the procedure may require patience.
  2. Wax from such things is difficult to remove, for this, use a dishwashing gel. Distribute the composition to the place of contamination and wait for it to dry completely. The procedure can be stretched overnight.
  3. After a specified time, the tool does not have to be washed off. Send clothes straight to the washing machine. Set the appropriate mode. You can wash delicate items yourself.
  4. It happens that drops of candles remain on the Bologna product. Do not despair ahead of time. The problem can be solved in the same way as described earlier. Detergent for dishes will cope with the task. After that, the thing needs to be washed in a typewriter.

Chiffon

  1. The question is quite relevant, many do not know how to remove such pollution from chiffon or organza.Using a hot iron is strictly contraindicated. Alcohol-containing compounds are also prohibited.
  2. Once again, a helium-based dishwashing detergent will save the situation. Moisten the product in the place of contamination with plain water, apply a small amount of soap on the cloth.
  3. After drying completely, wash the item in warm water yourself. If this procedure did not help, it is worth using a dry cleaning service. Otherwise, there is a risk of spoiling the delicate material.

Removal of wax after depilation

  1. In most cases, wax on clothing can be found after feasts and all kinds of festivities. In addition, people face a similar problem after cosmetic procedures.
  2. If you notice pollution in time, wax from clothes can be easily removed in a few minutes. Treat the problem area with warm vegetable oil. The composition should be taken in a minimal amount, literally a few drops.
  3. Wait a couple of minutes for the oil to absorb. Remove contamination with gel-based dish detergent. In this situation, you can resort to special oil-based wipes.
  4. They can be purchased at the cosmetic store. Unfortunately, this tool does not always help. Therefore, it is worth resorting to olive or cosmetic oil. Dampen a cotton swab in the composition and wipe the area of contamination several times.

If you approach the problem without fuss, you can solve the problem in a short time. The basic rule remains that you need to follow simple instructions. Identify the site of contamination and determine the type of fabric. Then proceed with the cleaning procedure. Pay special attention to delicate and fur things, they are most difficult to care for.
