Origin history
The main sign of the difference between the Ceylon cat is its amazing color: the tabby pattern on the ticking. From the name it is obvious that the homeland of these animals is Ceylon. At the moment, this is Sri Lanka, an incredibly beautiful place where tourists like to relax.
Around 1984, the island was visited by the then-famous doctor, whose name was Paolo Pelegatt. He comes from Italy. The man was so captivated by the unusual appearance of the cats that lived in Ceylon that he decided to take some with him to his homeland. There, armed with the help of experienced breeders, he organized a breeding program in order to get a new breed type: to establish a standard, removing some features of animals and bringing their appearance to the ideal.
Interesting: the inhabitants of Ceylon sincerely believed that an unusual cobra pattern on the head of animals could bring good luck. Perhaps that is why the doctor became interested in this type of cats, despite the fact that they were wild.
The residents of Italy became interested in the breed, so it was decided to bring a few more representatives of this species. It is noteworthy that later, in the process of work, the breeders managed to establish that the Ceylon cat is the carrier of the wild reed cat gene. By 1997, all the largest clubs in the world of cat associations recognized the breed - it was from then on that it became especially valuable.
How it looks: breed description
Ceylonki can have either small or medium size - depending on the gender of the cat. The weight of an adult can be from 3 to 4 kilograms.
The breed can be determined by the following external characteristics:
- The head has a round shape, it is wide and has a flat forehead with wide cheekbones.
- The ears are large, wide at the base, and the tips are rounded.
- The eyes are large and almond-shaped.
- The body is small, short, the abdomen has a rounded shape, the chest, shoulders and hips are well developed.
- Paws have an average length, and with developed muscles they look quite slender.
- The tail is not long.
- The coat has an unusual color, it is thin, short and very pleasant to the touch, closely adjacent to the body.
Ceylonok has a small undercoat, despite the fact that the animal originally lived in hot countries.
It is noteworthy that it is impossible to confuse this breed with another - they have a rather aristocratic appearance, an unusual pattern and smart, large eyes.
Which character?
It is best to have an animal active families. Cats are very curious, playful, they love attention and games. Ceylonka can adapt to any situation without problems, so if you often change your place of residence, this will not become an obstacle.

As for the reviews of happy owners of rare animals - despite the fact that initially the cats were wild, now the breed is not at all aggressive.If you properly raise a cat, you can even train it for some teams - they are very obedient. No need to let the animal out! Ceylonoks have almost no undercoat - which means that in the cold season the cat will simply die, despite the stress resistance and the ability to take root in any situation, this breed is still heat-loving.

Otherwise, the care is standard: as for all other shorthair breeds. It is necessary to brush at least twice a week, we must not forget that the cat needs to clean its eyes, ears and teeth. It is rarely necessary to bathe, as it gets dirty, since frequent bathing is harmful for cats, and they don’t really like them.
How to feed?
Cats have small dimensions, which means that they will not need high-calorie nutrition. If you decide to feed the animal with dry food - you should opt for products with the mark "super-premium". As for the natural woman - the cat will be happy if you treat her with offal (preferably: chicken navels, liver), you also need to include greens in the diet. The Ceylon cat’s body does not absorb cereals well, therefore, it is not necessary to feed the animal with them.
Cats have good health due to the fact that they are native breeds. If you give your pet enough time, provide him with good nutrition and warm housing - you can be sure that there will be no health problems. However, it is advisable to occasionally show your pet to the veterinarian for preventive examinations. Ceylon cats live for a long time - from 13 to 18 years.
