How to drive a parrot into a cage: useful tips

It’s not a secret to anyone that parrots have to stretch their wings from time to time and fly freely inside an enclosed space, whether it be a house or an apartment. In both cases, of course, all windows, doors and any other through holes leading to the street should be closed in advance. The bird needs to fly as often as possible in order to prevent the development of any diseases and processes leading to the atrophy of the wings.

How to drive a parrot into a cage

Since parrots are very fond of stopping at the highest places of the room, for example, a closet, each owner must know how to drive a parrot into a cage. Moreover, it is necessary to make a reservation in advance: forcibly forcing the bird to return by trapping is highly not recommended, as it will remember this experience as negative and will experience distrust on the next flight. The parrot’s temperament also plays an important role, as some breeds are especially vindictive.

For example, corals are able to remember for a long time any negative experience in communicating with their master; it is clear that this entails a loss of understanding, and the pet will simply avoid any further contact.

Trust of the bird to the owner

Before you start releasing a parrot from a cage, you should tame it; he must fully trust his master and, without any doubt, make a call. Typically, a bird is considered tamed when it willingly takes food from its hand, sits on a finger or hand and allows itself to be stroked for a long time. If she is still afraid of direct contact, then she should wait a bit with the flight.

Ideally, you do not need to directly drive the parrot into the cage, since the process of returning it should be as follows:

  • the owner simply calls by the name of his pet;
  • he responds, flies up to his hand, sits on a finger or brush;
  • he flies to his home, being brought up to the door.

Obviously, this is achieved only with full confidence and understanding between the owner and the parrot.

Lure with treats and toys

At first, when the bird only felt the charm of free flight, it can be called back not only by repeated repetition of its name, but also using its favorite treat, of course, in small quantities. Part should be put on the hand, part - inside the cage, so that the parrot saw the meaning of returning to the cage.

Sometimes a bird can be frightened by something, and even a treat will not help to lure it out of the secluded corner of the apartment. In this case, you need to act in a slightly different way:

Firstly, you can simply leave the parrot alone and not touch it for a certain amount of time, let it sit where it liked and where it feels safe. After 20-30 minutes, the bird will calm down and again fly to the hand.

Secondly, you can lure the pet back in a somewhat non-standard way by carefully raising your favorite perch to it: he will see an element of the familiar calm and well-being and will want to return to a safer place where he is protected and provided with food and water.

It is no secret that all parrots love their toys, which they especially value; usually these are bells, small mirrors or even soft toys. Therefore, you can return the bird to the cage with their help, in some way making it clear to them about their close proximity. So, the sound of the bell will remind the parrot about how nice and comfortable to sit on the perch and play with it, and he will gladly agree to sit on his hand.

Quick pet return to the cage

If all of the above methods did not have any effect, and the bird still sits in its place, is not given into the hands and sings songs, then you will have to resort to manual capture as an emergency way to return to the cage. But here you can cheat a little, so as not to harm the friendly feelings of the pet. It was noted above that some birds are especially vindictive and capable of harboring a grudge for a sufficiently long period, therefore, it is necessary, firstly, to ward off all suspicions, namely, to make sure that the parrot simply does not recognize the smell of the owner and its appearance, but secondly, completely darken the room.

How to quickly drive a parrot into a cage

It is necessary to act, relying on the element of surprise: some breeds see well in the dark, but at the same time they need a little time to adapt, which should be used.

To prevent the parrot from smelling familiar, you can put on rubber or cotton gloves that have a sharp one of their own. In this case, it is advisable to use as thick as possible, since the bird will probably bite, resisting the “creature” unfamiliar in the dark. If the parrot bites through thin gloves, it instantly smells the smell of the owner and suspects something was amiss.

You can approach the feathered pet using a mobile phone, gently shining it around the place where the bird sits, so as not to dazzle it. The parrot should be carefully but surely taken from the side of the wings so that it does not fly out of hands, and then quickly put inside the cage. After he understood where he was, he should wait a little longer in order to finally ward off all suspicions and go into the room to turn on the light. So, the bird, being a little agitated, simply does not realize what has happened in the last minutes, plus it certainly will not be offended by its owner. It is important to act carefully, but at the same time quickly and confidently, this is the key to safely returning the parrot.

Another simple tip is that before the walk, the pet should remove all the feeders from the cage in about an hour and a half, so that the bird gets a little hungry. Having flown a little, she will surely get hungry and instinctively come back, expecting from her master her favorite grains and fruits. You can put food on a saucer at the bottom of the cage: the parrot sees a treat in the cage and decides to fly into it.

How to not return a feathered pet to the cage

Less often, the owners simply cover the bird with a cage, which is devoid of a bottom, and after it jumps onto the perch, they return it back. This method provokes fear, and the pet will feel unprotected even at home, so you should not resort to it.

It is also highly recommended not to catch a parrot with his hands in daylight: he will definitely remember this unpleasant experience. If there is no way to darken the room, and it is necessary to return the pet back as soon as possible, some use a special landing net, which the bird is not able to bite. It is not recommended to resort to this method at all, since there is a probability of damage to the wings and nervous system of the bird.

It should be remembered that for the parrot to always want to go back, you just need to provide it with tasty food, enough water, various goodies in the cage and not take away your favorite toys. Over time, the bird will understand that even flying around the rooms is fine, returning to the cage is also necessary.
