  1. Individuals of the family under discussion come from South America. The first time they were discovered by F. Bond back in 1937. Then the guppies lived in a lagoon located in the north of the mainland, namely in Venezuela. However, scientists were not interested in this species, so they forgot about it for a while. After 40 years, a variety of aquatic inhabitants was discovered again, this time F. Endler did it, after which the fish got its name.
  2. There is much debate as to which subtype the Endler guppy belongs to. Some say that these are ordinary members of the family obtained by hybrid breeding. But others insist that aquatic inhabitants should be attributed to a separate family. At the moment, the guppy and Endler guppies are two different types of fish.
  3. Not only the appearance, but also the environment is different. For example, ordinary guppies love a sufficient flow and moderately cool water. And representatives of Endler prefer to live in stagnant and warm water sources, they are more tropical. Since there are very few fish in the environment, they are on the verge of extinction due to constant human intervention.

  1. It is worth starting with the fact that representatives of the Endler type are much smaller in their overall characteristics than other guppy fish. Males cannot boast large tails, but this did not prevent them from becoming brighter than females in their color. Beginners and experienced aquarists prefer to get exactly the males, because they look favorably in the water tank.
  2. Guppies of the type under discussion are distinguished by their peaceful nature. They quickly make friends with other good-natured neighbors, without causing any trouble to anyone. Also, these individuals easily get along in an aquarium environment with various miniature size shrimps.
  3. The colors of males are dominated by blue, black, red, yellow, blue and green, as well as all their derivatives. But females are famous for their golden or silver tint. Thanks to this, it is easy to determine what gender the individual is in front of you. Therefore, there is no difficulty in depositing fish during spawning.
  4. In males, the caudal fin is transparent, and the bottom is modified. These beautiful fish under the light of lamps shimmer like a rainbow. As for the dimensions, the males are smaller (2.5 cm) females (3.5 cm).
  5. It is worth highlighting sexual dimorphism. That is, the males are smaller and brighter, the females are larger and more uniform. Females have a rounded abdominal cavity, while males are elongated and thin.
  6. If we talk about other distinctive features of this particular family, then we highlight the following aspects. The fish have a spot, which according to the mood and health of the individual can change in color. There are also spots and stripes in large numbers.   1. We have already mentioned that this family of fish is considered to be an ideal option for beginners to keep. Therefore, if you do not have experience in such matters, feel free to proceed with the preparation.So, the fish are unpretentious and peaceful, they love space and good-natured neighborhood.
  2. Since these fish are schooling, they start them in an amount of 8 individuals. A tank of 50 liters is required for such an amount. Particular attention is paid to the type of soil, it can be a small pebble or sand.
  3. Mandatory in the tank are floating plants that create shade and comfort. Since these fish like to jump, the aquarium is covered. But you need to leave a gap for oxygen to enter.
  4. Also take care of maintaining all conditions for a comfortable fish existence. So, for example, the temperature should be about 25-29 degrees with an acidity of 7 units and a hardness of 16-24 units. It is worth remembering that in a warm environment, fish quickly grow, but also die suddenly. Therefore, try to stay in the middle ground.
  5. Guppies of this species live little, up to 2 years. Therefore, do not injure them with poor aquatic environment or constant temperature fluctuations. Each week, a quarter of the entire fluid is drained, a new one is poured instead. Not too powerful filter and aeration device will not hinder.
  6. The considered individuals without any problems get along with dwarf corridors, zebrafish, tetra, neon, iris and cardinals. It is strictly forbidden to hook predators to guppies, especially large ones. Otherwise, the fish in question will be eaten.
  7. Separately, it is worth noting that the traditional guppy species is not suitable as neighbors for the presented fish. Otherwise, you will begin to appear hybrids. If you plan to breed exclusively the Endler species, then more females should be raised on the male.
  8. The presented individuals are omnivorous and unpretentious in food. They eat excellent frozen, fresh and artificial feed. In the wild, guppies often feed on algae, small insects, and detritus. In aquarium conditions, it is strongly recommended that these individuals are additionally fed with plant foods.
  9. Often flakes with herbs or with spirulina act as such a feed. Do not forget that the fish in question have a very small mouth. Therefore, feed pellets must be of appropriate size. It is better not to give live bloodworms; it is recommended to freeze it in advance. So it falls apart.

Compatibility

  1. Guppies are quite small in size. It is for this reason that exclusively peaceful and small fish should be hooked to them. They will perfectly get along with neon, speckled catfish, parsing, cardinals, etc.
  2. It is not recommended to contain Endler specimens with regular guppies. Otherwise, they will begin to cross. In general terms, we can say that the fish in question are very peaceful and harmless. They can only suffer from aggressive neighbors.

  1. As mentioned earlier, such individuals are not picky about food. Therefore, you can give them absolutely any food without any problems. Still, it is worth giving preference to the highest quality formulations. Such fish will be happy to enjoy small live food.
  2. Do not just give live bloodworms. With this food the fish can simply choke. In this case, a fatal outcome is inevitable. Guppies also eat all kinds of dry food. Each time before feeding, it is recommended to rub the composition with your fingers.
  3. Do not forget that the majority of the diet of the individuals represented is still plant food. It is for this reason that fish are recommended to give food with a high concentration of spirulina.
  4. If guppies do not receive enough plant foods, they will soon begin to develop problems associated with the gastrointestinal tract. It is also strictly forbidden to overfeed such fish. Individuals are prone to obesity.
  5. If the fish encounter a similar problem, they will begin to have problems with the reproductive system.Adults are allowed to feed up to 2 times a day. Also, one fasting day per week will not be superfluous. Young animals should be given food up to 5 times a day.
  6. In addition, it is not recommended to fatten the fish before your vacation. The considered individuals in the wild are able to do without food for up to 1 month. Therefore, you have nothing to worry about. Aquarium fish will not die of hunger.
