Czech terrier

History and Origin

It was previously mentioned that the breed was bred artificially. A breeder, a dog lover, a leading dog handler of the country, he first bred a Scottish breed with a wide chest and short legs. Because of this, terriers were no longer used in hunting, because their powerful front part did not allow them to penetrate into minks.

Then I had to reconsider my decision in order to get a pet that could help in the hunt. The task was to make the chest already so that the dog easily made his way into the cracks where a small animal lives. The work was carried out with dogs, which also had the prefix "terrier." We are talking about scotch tape, selihems, dandy-dinmont, etc.

For 10 years, selection work has been carried out. After this time, still managed to get the Czech, or Bohemian, terrier. He is hardy, good-natured, devoted, acts as a great assistant in the hunt. Physical data encouraged the International Kennel Federation to set standards for the breed and to accept dogs into its ranks.

Standards

  1. This dog belongs to the breeds of hunters, respectively, indicators come from this. An elongated body, a rectangular head, well-developed muscles, excellent cartilage and bone composition. Short, but at the same time strong and fairly stable paws allow dogs to easily get into the mink.

  3. Again, adhering to global standards, there are certain requirements for the breed. The head is rectangular, elongated, reaches a length of about 20 cm and a width of 10 cm. The frontal part does not stand out, it is flat. The transition to the bridge of the nose is smooth, small. Cheekbones are almost not expressed, there is a small tubercle on the back of the head, the area behind the ears of bitches is smaller than that of males.
  4. The muzzle should be strictly widened, not narrowed, this is a deviation from the norm. There is no particular transition from nose to forehead, but you can see it. 2. Dogs are sheared specially, leaving long patches of hair above the eyes, as well as in the lower body. When buying a puppy, it is difficult to evaluate the color, because it will be accurate when the dog reaches three years of age.

Breed character

  1. The breed in question is distinguished by love and devotion to the owner. In addition, dogs have a flexible disposition and a soft character. Such features are not inherent in all terriers. The advantage of this breed is that it is devoid of aggression and has unimaginable patience. The pet is always trying to please the owner.
  2. The Czech Terrier is not so independent and self-willed, unlike other hunting dogs. Thanks to this feature, your pet will become an excellent companion for you. Terriers can be started in almost any family. The pet gets along well with all households and children. The dog shows special attention and care for the elderly.
  3. Due to the soft nature, friendliness and other positive qualities, the pet becomes a universally recognized favorite in the family. However, do not forget that the terrier belongs to the hunting breed. But this does not stop him from being a great companion.
  4. The dog has all the necessary skills of a hunter. She is pretty hardy and enthusiastic. In a working environment, the pet shows courage and fearlessness. The pet is not afraid of even larger prey. As for the home environment, the dog will be calm and relaxed.
  5. The Czech Terrier is easy to train. Such a dog can make an excellent watchman. The pet is naturally vigilant. The downside is that the dog is not aggressive and will not attack first. However, you can always hear about suspicious activity on the site.
  6. If you have small children, they will not become an obstacle in acquiring the Czech Terrier. Dogs get along well with babies and are more patient. The pet will be a great company for children. Do not forget that the terrier is still a hunter, therefore it is recommended to socialize them as early as possible.
  7. Therefore, try to walk with the puppy as much as possible and allow him to play with relatives. As a result, the adult will calmly respond to other animals. However, the terrier may be indifferent to rodents and birds. Therefore, you should not risk and additionally start such livestock.

Training and education

Training and education of the Czech Terrier

  1. The presented breed is more intended to bring people joy. The dog will agree to everything, if only the owner was satisfied. Do not worry about education and training, there will be no problems with this.
  2. If you look from the other side, then you should have restraint and patience. Learn to respect your fourth friend. If something doesn’t work out, don’t be angry. The animal is sure to learn everything. Terriers are very active and cannot always understand what exactly you want from them.
  3. Experts categorically do not recommend treating the animal with neglect, applying a harsh tone or physical strength. If you show such behavior on your part, then nothing good will come of education. The dog will not execute any commands.
  4. If you go too far, more wayward terriers may even bite. They will not tolerate injustice. In addition, you can injure the psyche of the animal with your aggression. As a result, such an injury will be deposited in the dog for life.
  5. Experienced owners and breeders argue that with the difficult behavior of the dog, you can completely cope. Often, a pet can stubbornly become corny because of a lack of attention and an inactive lifestyle. Terriers are hyperactive and you need to constantly walk with them.
  6. It is important to understand that a pet should not be pampered often. When training without punishment, not far to go. If the animal shows dominance or aggression, this must be stopped without fail.
  7. After acquiring a puppy, spend more time with him on the street and surrounded by relatives. Early socialization will help to solve all problems in the future. Do not forget about timely vaccination. Thus, the terrier will be able to study the environment earlier.

Once you get a little terrier, from the very first days you can slowly teach it the basics. Introduce him to a new place and household. Come up with a nickname and teach him to respond to it. If necessary, show where its tray and place. This will all come in handy later on. A well-bred dog will be a great companion.
