Therapeutic properties and contraindications of immortelle

Plant characteristics

In the botanical world, the plant has defined sonic characteristics. Scientists describe it as a perennial grassy felt-woolly. But, first of all, the immortelle is visible among other wild-flowering herbs due to the small flowers collected in a single panicle, only up to 6 mm. Flowers resemble a spherical basket. Usually it is multirow, orange or pale lemon with a yellow tint. During flowering, the plant does not lose its bright color, which is why they called it immortelle.

When flowering begins in June, the inflorescences are fairly dense to the touch, and then become softened. An interesting property of this plant: always the extreme flowers are female, they have a threadlike shape. Those in the middle are considered bisexual and have crests. And the fruit is obtained with a crest, but it is small and brown in color, it ripens in August. But it happens that if the weather favors, then the second flowering of the immortelle begins, then the baskets can be found in the axils of the upper leaves. The flowering period of each basket is on average 15 days.

The rhizome immortelle has a short and brown, straight stem, about 35-centimeter long. About the leaves, we can say that they have a sequence, oblong, narrowed into petioles.

Collection and harvesting of plants

The most comfortable for immortelle on dry and sandy soils, in steppe zones and sparse pine forests. First of all, inflorescences are used for medicinal purposes. They need to be picked in time before the side baskets are opened, otherwise there will be no effective therapeutic effect. There are still important conditions for procurement:

  • you need to collect this plant only in dry weather, not very early so that the dew is gone;
  • whether a sharp knife is cut using scissors;
  • at one place, the collection can be carried out no more than 4 times, while the plant in turn blooms;
  • re-collection is carried out not less than 5 days later;
  • if the plant is pulled out completely, it is very easy to deplete its reserves.

The following preparations can be done in this place only after a few years, and for large immortelle settlements to reappear, it is necessary to preserve at least 10 plants, but always with inflorescences.

You can’t store the collected flowers for more than four hours, especially if the inflorescences are 1 cm long. They deteriorate very quickly, and therefore require quick processing. It will be necessary to decompose the harvested crop on a cloth or clean paper in one layer. You need to find a place away from sunlight.

The plant retains its healing properties for three years.
