5 life hacks, how to make stocks of vegetables for the winter

If you are growing vegetables or just buying them in large quantities, you probably already wondered how to store them correctly. But if tomatoes, cucumbers and berries go straight to the jar, and no one has any questions with this, then onions and potatoes require a different approach.

How to make stocks of vegetables for the winter

The potato turns green and rot over time, and the onion is waiting for the chance to drive out the next “arrow”. But you need to make stocks in season, while they are still cheap and affordable. There is a way out of this situation! Let’s see how to keep vegetables and other gifts of nature fresh throughout the winter.

The second life of your tights

You can store onions in them, and this is not just another jerk of our grandmothers, who do not need to rush to make fun of. Today, even Europeans store onions in old "noodles", as this method is promoted by household experts.

It is important that the tights are light, because there will be no light in the dark bow. Be sure to separate the bulbs from each other, making knots in tights. Such an onion “leg” in limbo should be stored where it is cool and dry. The onion is thus well ventilated, and you only need to arm yourself with scissors to get the bulb if necessary.

Fruits - to the right, vegetables - to the left

Like apples, bananas, peaches and avocados have the property of accelerating the ripening of other gifts of nature, so they should be stored separately. Most fruits "can" ripen under ordinary temperature conditions, but oranges, tangerines and grapes will deteriorate at this temperature - they should ripen in the refrigerator. This can not be said about garlic, which in the conditions of the refrigerator compartment will instantly dry out and germinate. Instead, wrap the garlic in paper and place in a dry and dark place.

Stop washing the berries

Even if you buy them. If there are more berries than you can eat, in no case rinse them so that bacteria do not multiply on them. This is the case when cleanliness is not a guarantee of our health. But not only berries are extremely undesirable.

Store apples next to potatoes

Apples are bad neighbors for the rest of the fruit, because they produce ethylene, which accelerates the ripening of fruits that re-ripen and spoil ahead of time. But another thing is neighborhood with potatoes! Apple gas prevents its rot. It is enough to put a few apples near the potato - and it will happily winter whole. Store potatoes in a dark place in which it is cool and dry.

The main thing is ... celery crunched!

Not everyone can cope with the whole voluminous armful of celery in one sitting, therefore, it is most often intended for him to wither sadly in the refrigerator until they remember about it. But you can save the life of celery.

So that it remains appetizingly crispy, wash it, dry it and wrap it with foil so that air can flow through one end. So celery will not lose its palatability for as long as 2 weeks.

But you can’t wash the salad. Use parchment or paper, put the salad there, and then put this paper "doll" in a food container with an airtight lid. Iceberg lettuce and its spicy fellow rucola also do not like to come into contact with either water or air.

Greens for the winter

To preserve the green onion, cut its feathers into an ordinary plastic bottle, tighten the lid well and place in the freezer. In order to take a little onion in the winter, you just need to shake the bottle and pour the right portion.
