The history of the emergence and development of this amazing breed of dogs is firmly connected with the open spaces strewn with snowdrifts, which have no end and edge. Where, over long winters and blizzards, people were forced to find for themselves not just an animal that could provide assistance, but also a dog that could become a true and faithful companion. And husky during the entire existence of the breed were and are just such pets. Unusually, such dogs, which combine the blood of ancient dogs of the north and the blood of wolves, were tamed by the Chukchi tribes much earlier than they domesticated deer.
Breed development
Being in an extremely harsh climate, when the thermometer could easily drop to -60, the Chukchi were well aware that the Huskies would never let them down. The man considered these dogs to be helpers not only in the hunting process or for movement, huskies have long been considered true family members. If a baby was born in the family, then all the huskies who usually lived outside the house were invited inside. They needed to lie around the child in order to warm him with the warmth of their bodies. After the baby became a little older, it was the husky who were his defenders and played with him. Very often, only these dogs warmed the whole family, especially on frosty nights. This is what led to the emergence of the term “pair of dogs - night” - just two huskies are enough to keep the whole human body warm.
At the very end of the nineteenth century, it was the sled dogs that played an important role in the fate of the Chukchi tribes, defending the autonomy of this nation from Russia in tsarist times. It may seem surprising, but it was the teams of dogs of this breed that helped the Chukchi to inflict severe damage to the invading army and gained independence.
But at the beginning of the next century, the breed almost disappeared from the face of the earth, since the Soviet authorities considered the uselessness of Siberian huskies, given their insufficient growth for transporting goods. Husky lost the status of a separate breed, and dog breeding was banned.
But even in this situation, the Husky managed to maintain their existence thanks to the interest of the Americans. Even the current name of the dog breed owes it to them, since the word "husky" is an interpretation of the word "eski".
