How to get rid of ear mites in a cat

First step: going to the hospital

A prerequisite is a visit to the veterinarian. The doctor should examine the ears and ears of the animal to make a diagnosis. The symptoms of tick infection at the initial stage are similar to otitis media, so the owner can choose the wrong treatment tactics, which will only worsen the situation.

It is difficult to consider parasites at home, they are quite small and prefer to hide in the ear secretions. The vet takes a scraping and examines it under a microscope. The procedure is carried out quickly and gives a one hundred percent diagnosis, on the basis of which treatment is prescribed.

Typically, therapy consists of several stages:

  • cleansing the auricle of crusts and wax;
  • the destruction of parasites with insecticidal drops;
  • the use of anti-inflammatory drugs that relieve itching;
  • strengthening feline immunity.

On average, treatment takes from 14 to 21 days, because you need to destroy both adults and eggs. If you follow all the recommendations, the cat will feel better after the first or second procedure, the ears will quickly heal, and it will cease to constantly itch.

Hygiene procedures

You will need a stable table on which the sick animal will fit, a towel to put under the caudate patient, and the medicine itself. Rinse the auricles with chlorhexidine, special lotions or peroxide. The latter, contrary to some fears, is completely harmless to the animal. In veterinary pharmacies, drops intended for ear care are also sold, for example, "Dewdrop", which comes with a pipette.

Ear mite

A more natural and safer option is green tea. Brew 15 g of dried leaves with 200 ml of boiling water, do not use sachets and flavored options with various additives. Insist until cool. No sugar, honey or other sweeteners.

Step-by-step guide
Wrap a tailed victim in a diaper so that the owner’s hands and nerves remain intact. Some owners neglect swaddling and invite friends or relatives to hold the cat, but the animal rarely sits quietly in place while liquid is poured into his ear.

Be sure to stock up cotton pads before the procedure. No sticks, because they easily damage the auricle or eardrum. You should work quickly and accurately, tailed patients do not differ in patience and perseverance:

  1. Put the cat wrapped in a diaper on its side, having previously collected a little liquid for washing in the pipette.
  2. You can moisten cotton wool in tea or peroxide, and then squeeze it into the auricle.
  3. There should be little fluid to slightly moisten the affected organ.
  4. Fold the top of the ear in half and rub it with gentle massage movements to carefully separate the dirt and crusts from the skin.
  5. Put the cat on its stomach, allowing itself to exhale fluid. Blot the auricle with a cotton swab, removing residual dirt and ticks.
  6. Wipe affected auditory organs, constantly changing wipes. You can gently pick up dirt that has accumulated at the top with a cotton swab, but it is pre-dipped in peroxide or other disinfectant.
  7. Wait until there is nothing left in the ear, repeat the manipulations with the second.

In the first few days, hygiene procedures should be carried out 2-3 times a day in order to cleanse the cat's auditory organs as much as possible.

Important: The crusts and other secretions that the tailed pet will shake out of the ears are recommended to be sweeping or vacuuming. Ticks remain in the mud, which move to furniture and carpets, and then move back to the animal's paws.

Ear mite drops

Aerosol preparations like Dermatozol, Tsiodrin, or Prosoptol will do. To remove ticks and inflammation, Tresaderm is advised. The composition of the drug has antibiotics that destroy the secondary infection introduced by the cat in the ears when combing wounds. "Tiabendazole" is used for ticks and fungal diseases to reduce the course of treatment to 14 days. The tool is quite powerful, so it immediately kills ticks and laid eggs.

Ear mite drops

There are other drugs: Amit and Tactic, Amitrazin and Bars. The latter is a capsule that breaks, and the contents are poured onto the withers of the animal and gently rubbed. Hands should be protected with rubber gloves.

Owners of cats that do not trust traditional medicine can try sunflower oil and garlic. Grind the seasoning clove, insist in several tablespoons of the liquid component for 2-3 days, and then bury it in the ears once a day.

Preventative measures

The animal after treatment is shown to the veterinarian. If the mites are destroyed, it is advised to purchase a drug made on the basis of selamectin, for example, the American "Revolution". The substance is rubbed at the withers to kill worms, fleas and ticks.

It is mandatory to carry out a general cleaning at home with disinfection of the floor, washing of carpets and cleaning of upholstered furniture. Treat with prophylactic preparations of all animals in contact with a sick cat. Fipronil or Frontail spray should be sprayed onto the paws of a caudate pet.

The cat should be protected from contact with stray animals, regularly bathe and clean its ears. The nutrition of a furry family member should be balanced. It is recommended to strengthen the pet's immunity with the help of Echinacea or Gamavita tinctures.

If the cat has the first symptoms of tick infection, you should immediately make an appointment with the veterinarian. Quick and adequate treatment will relieve the problem in just a few weeks or a month and protect the caudate pet from unpleasant consequences.
