Hieroglyphic python - description of where he lives, features

The hieroglyphic python probably stores any encrypted records - such an interesting picture. However, when you look at it, you can be scared, since this type of python is considered one of the largest and heaviest African snakes. At the same time, this species is protected very carefully, and in order to export it outside the country, a permit specially obtained from the authorities is required. It would seem, why take such a formidable snake beyond its natural habitat? Recently, however, many people have liked the hieroglyphic python as a pet, especially since it is non-toxic and feels comfortable in captivity with good care. It is already customary that European residents and exotic animal lovers in the USA and South America contain these beautiful snakes.

The largest, in addition to the hieroglyphic, are considered royal and reticulated pythons. But there are also other major representatives:

  1. Black-headed python - he lives in Australia, its northern part.
  2. Python Ramsey and the ringed spotted are also residents of Australia.
  3. Burrowing African python.
  4. Ringed is the most unique python, and you can see it only on the Bismarck archipelago.
  5. Amethyst python - lives in Australia and in New Guinea.

Where does the hieroglyphic python live?

Near the equator in the warm conditions of Africa, especially south of the Sahara, you can often see beautiful pythons with an unusual color. And although their population does not cause concern, the number of these pythons invariably decreases. As in many cases, a person can be found guilty of this. Too attractive for him is the skin of this snake, as well as tasty meat.

The life of the hieroglyphic python takes place in the savannah or in the forests - subtropical or tropical. But a meeting with him can occur in the rocks, especially if there are numerous holes in them (it is also called - rocky), in meadows or in areas where humidity is high. She also chooses places to stay near villages or farms.

Description of appearance

This snake, in comparison with the growth of a person, looks very large. Anyone who had to see an unexpectedly 6-meter formidable snake weighing more than 100 kg remembered this meeting forever. But in captivity, the python usually has a length of not more than 4.5 meters, and the weight does not exceed 60 kg.

Originality to the python is given by unique patterns on the back in the form of unusual broken lines and zigzags, transverse stripes. The sides are decorated with dark spots that are interspersed with gray, black or brown. The body is slim.

When the hieroglyphic python lives in natural conditions, its back has shades in gray and brown tones, sometimes brown prevails. The belly is much lighter, has a yellowish color. A man is trying to breed individuals with different colors, and he does it very well.

On the python's head, a dark spot is visible, very similar to a triangle, as well as a strip passing through the eyes.

How dangerous is it?

Despite the beauty, the hieroglyphic python is one of the most cruel stranglers, and he sometimes behaves very belligerently.

He chooses night time for hunting, although he can remain without food for a long time. It prefers various rodents and birds, but can attack an antelope, and even a crocodile and a leopard.

Despite the weight and dimensions, the snake can perfectly swim and deftly climb a tree. The movements of the python are leisurely and measured, it seems that you can escape from it.But the throw at the hieroglyphic python is so swift and correctly calculated that it is almost impossible to hide. And although it is not poisonous, the teeth are very sharp, and a person should also beware of them, since many cases of hunting people have been recorded, and even with a fatal outcome.

Typically, the female lays eggs from 30 to 50 pieces, offspring appear after 3 months.

But, if the python was born not in natural conditions, but in captivity, it can be tamed, and only then special dangerous situations will not arise. Like every wild animal, the python may initially show unbridled aggression, bite the owner, but these actions are more likely to be caused by fear. By showing friendliness, a person can tame an African murderer, and completely subjugate his will.

Life in captivity

Rules have already been developed for keeping the hieroglyphic python at home. And first of all, experts warn inexperienced beginners that taking this large python for maintenance is very dangerous if there is no knowledge of its habits, aggressive and unpredictable nature and specific methods of education. Only knowledge and careful care will help turn the storm of savannahs and forests into a calm and supple pet.

Housing for a python is not difficult to arrange, but it will have to be looked after very often and carefully. This snake belongs to substrates without problems. You can even use newspapers, and mulching will help maintain the moist conditions that the python is used to. However, the main thing is not to overdo it so that there is no excess moisture.

The terrarium should be equipped with a powerful valve, since this snake has great power. If the python is very large, then the housing for it should be spacious, and a prerequisite is the creation of various temperature conditions. This requirement is mandatory for the python to feel comfortable being periodically, sometimes in a warm zone, then in a cool one. This means that the maximum temperature should be approximately +33 degrees, the minimum - up to +24. It is desirable that in the place of residence of the hieroglyphic python there is a thermometer for constant monitoring - climatic conditions are vital for his health.

You should also purchase all kinds of accessories in the form of heating lamps, rugs. Stones should not be placed in a terrarium, as they can become very hot and cause harm to the python.
