History and origin of the breed
The history of the origin of the breed of miniature bull terriers begins in the distant 19th century. The standard bull terrier back in those days had excellent fighting qualities - the dog was agile, strong, hardy and passionate. They began to use it to catch rats, which in London were very many. The bull terrier coped well with the rat, but could not crawl into the narrow crevices and nooks. And then the breeders were inspired by the idea - to grow a dwarf bull terrier. For this, the smallest puppies were selected from each litter and crossed among themselves. The dog turned out to be extremely smart, retained all the characteristics inherent in the bull terrier, could cope with a huge number of rats. Historical documented facts suggest that a good mini-bull terrier could break more than 100 rats in a few minutes. And this is not the easiest opponent - rats can attack, squeak and bite very hard.
Subsequently, mini-bull terriers were crossed with toy terriers. The result was very tiny dogs, less than three kilograms. They could no longer hunt rats. Moreover, the breed obtained by mixing the genes began to show genetic defects - the bred puppies began to hurt a lot, sometimes dogs with unnaturally round heads or bulging eyes appeared in the litter. That is, the coloring of the bull terrier was lost. This forced the breeders to stop their experiments. Fortunately, at the beginning of the 20th century, the breed revived, and already in the 90s of the last century it was officially recorded.

The dog resembles an exact copy of its big brother - the bull terrier. A characteristic feature is an elongated, egg-shaped head, which is the hallmark of the breed. The body of the dog is very muscular, the skin tightens the inflated muscles. The eyes are a little slanting, set deep enough. The pet has a smooth and short shiny coat, which practically does not fade. The hind legs are typically slightly shorter than the front. The dog is considered stubborn and vindictive enough, therefore it is not recommended to use force on it, you may lose the thread of trust of the animal. Features of the care and maintenance of the mini-bull terrier
A miniature bull terrier is considered an excellent choice for a city dweller - it does not bring any special problems. The hair of the animal does not roll in, does not gather in tangles, since the mini-bull terrier does not have an undercoat. But twice a year the dog molts - you will have to regularly comb the dog’s hair or wipe it with a damp cloth. The miniature bull terrier is quite sensitive to cold, short hair does not protect it from frost. Therefore, in winter you will have to purchase a new wardrobe for your pet. In summer, if you decide to go outdoors, you must definitely protect your pet from blood-sucking insects - he often has an allergy to them. By the way, by the appearance of the coat, one can understand the state of the animal. If the coat is smooth and shiny, the dog is fine. Like any other breed of dog, a miniature bull terrier needs care for its teeth, claws and ears. Ears should be wiped a couple of times a month with a bandage dipped in hydrogen peroxide. Teeth need to be cleaned of tartar using special toys or at a doctor’s appointment - tartar is removed using an ultrasound device. City dogs usually do not need to trim their nails - they rub off on the asphalt. However, if necessary, long claws need to be removed. 1-2 times a month or as the dog gets dirty, you need to bathe. The miniature bull terrier has a characteristic odor, so a specialized shampoo should be used during water procedures. In the intervals between baths, dry dog shampoos are often used to combat odor.
A miniature bull terrier is not prone to any special genetic diseases. The exception is the white mini-bull terrier, which may become deaf to one or both ears. It is better not to use such a pet for breeding further offspring. Sometimes bull terriers may have an eyeball shift, such a pathology does not require treatment, the usual observation of a veterinarian is sufficient.
