Now felinologists around the world are engaged in breeding new breeds. The latest discoveries are really amazing, because the resulting breeds are very different from their predecessors. So, recently a new breed was obtained with the name Likoi (the name comes from the Greek language and translates as “cat-wolf). If you look at them, you get the impression that this is a small werewolf, so this breed is suitable for lovers of horror and mystical stories.

The history of this breed

Cats-wolves are called so because of the undoubted similarity with the dark representatives of scary tales. They turned out thanks to the experiment of American breeders. This breed is no more than 5 years old; therefore, listing many of the characteristics of these animals, as well as their health, will not work. This requires more than a dozen years.

Surprisingly, this breed was obtained using the most common mating of a long-haired cat and sphinx. The result was striking in its uniqueness, because the purpose of the cross was to breed a new breed of sphinx. The new breed did not have wool only in some places, while in the rest it was present, but rather unusual and differed from the standards.

The breeding of the new breed began in 2010. Scientists have repeatedly tested the condition of animals, as well as their health. It was necessary to know for sure that such hair growth on the animal’s body was caused by natural factors, and was not a manifestation of any diseases or health problems. Then some more experiments were carried out to consolidate the results and approve the new breed officially. This happened after 2 years, that is, in 2012.

After that, this breed continues to gain more and more popularity around the world due to its unusual and extravagant appearance.

Breed description

To date, scientists still managed to highlight some specific features of the breed. These include:

1. The size of the animals of this breed is quite large, they can reach up to 5 kilograms in weight. The physique has equal proportions, the muscles and limbs are very well developed. If you look closely, you can see in their appearance and behavior the echoes of the sphinx. But the main difference between this breed and the rest is their wool, which does not have an undercoat. If you don’t know anything about the breed, you might think that the cat has some kind of problem with the hair or if it is covered.
2. The head of cats is regular in shape, rounded and has a wedge shape.
3. Ears are straight and even, spaced from each other at a great distance.
4. The lines are very soft and smooth, tapering very neatly closer to the tip of the nose.
5. The eyes are very beautiful and expressive, have a round shape and large size.
6. The color of the eyes of these pets is yellow, which adds mysticism and secrets to their appearance, making these animals more and more like werewolves.
7. A very interesting fact in the appearance of lycoys is the lack of hair near the eyes and nose.
8. The limbs of these cats are graceful, and fingers without hair at all. The paws are thin and long, with the front ones longer than the rear.
9. The tail is long enough. It can be covered with small pieces of wool, or it can be covered with it whole.
10. As for the neck of the animal, it has a very sophisticated shape, resembling the neck of the sphinx. This makes the animal elegant and at the same time - even more like a werewolf. Character Features

These animals are very affectionate and kind, although at first glance they may seem quite aggressive in appearance. But this impression is misleading. If I may say so, then they are even a little cowardly, and their appearance serves as a kind of protective mask. In terms of attention to themselves, they are quite demanding, so the owner will have to devote a lot of free time to this pet. In large companies, cats are very fond of being in the spotlight and attracting universal views. They love a large crowd of people, where they certainly become "stars". But the strangers at first are very skeptical of strangers and get used to them. But after they realize that there is no danger, they accept new friends in their company.

Lycoids should be kept as far as possible from birds and small rodents, because the hunting instinct makes itself felt and wakes up in them. In this behavior, they are often compared with dogs. Therefore, in order to avoid accidents with small animals, they should be kept away from lycoys, and it is better not to start them at all, because at any opportunity the cat will quickly get rid of them. With large animals, cats quickly find a common language and no troubles arise.

Similarity of lycoys with dogs is also added by the trait of cats to actively protect their territory from strangers or animals. That is, these pets combine the signs of both a cat and a dog. And sometimes it’s very difficult to understand what will appear at one time or another. This can be both the instinct of a real werewolf and the exemplary behavior of a cute pet. And to guess when exactly this or that feature will appear is almost impossible.

These pets can easily be put on a leash and go for a walk in the park. They love outdoor walks. This is very good, but do not forget that releasing pets from a leash is not recommended, as the instinct of a hunter can cause the animal to run after prey and simply get lost.

Care and maintenance

Since the birth of the breed, a very small amount of time has passed, so it’s quite difficult to unequivocally talk about the features of caring for these animals and their health. You should know and not be afraid that the pet will periodically molt, losing a lot of hair, and sometimes completely becoming bald, like a sphinx. During this period, the skin of the animal must be cleaned with napkins.

When the pet's hair is in place, it is often necessary to bathe and comb it. It is recommended to do this once a month for animals kept at home. For animals that regularly walk, the procedure should be carried out more often (2-3 times a month).

Special attention should be given to the teeth of pets, their ears and eyes, which need periodic cleaning. If you find strange formations on the skin or secretions, you must necessarily show the cat to the veterinarian. Interestingly, no diseases have been identified for the entire time of breeding cats. However, you do not need to relax, it is better to periodically show the animal to an experienced specialist.

Nutrition

If we consider the nutrition of these animals, then their diet is very similar to the diet of the sphinxes. Since the heat transfer in their body is increased, they need much more food. Frequency of food intake is also increasing. Likoi love to eat, which means that monitoring their eternally hungry stomach is still worth it. Do not overfeed your pet in order to avoid health problems and obesity.

The food for liquors is chosen by the owner individually. It can be specialized feeds, or it can be natural food. All together giving the animal is not recommended, since digestion problems may occur.When choosing a special dry food, you need to make sure that they contain all the necessary useful substances, and in case of feeding with natural food, you will have to add vitamins to it yourself.

These are very selfish and sometimes selfish animals, so families need to have them, where either there are no children, or they are adults. It should also be remembered that cats do not like to share the territory and attention of the owner with other animals, so it is advisable not to get someone else besides them. Therefore, before acquiring a face, it is strongly recommended to consider all the pros and cons of this animal, because they will certainly require a lot of attention to themselves.
