How to collect rose hips

  1. Harvesting depends on the weather, as well as the plant variety. Similar manipulations are carried out from late summer to mid-autumn. For drying, try to collect dense, slightly unripe berries with a pronounced brilliance.
  2. When collecting rose hips, cut the fruits on a small stalk, preserving the original appearance. Thus, all beneficial substances and vitamins are preserved. After harvesting, try to start drying as quickly as possible, since fresh fruits are stored for about 3 days.

  1. Most often, drying is carried out at home using an oven, an electric dryer, as well as the sun and natural conditions.
  2. Please note that when drying in a microwave oven, most of the beneficial trace elements die.
  3. To keep the maximum amount of vitamins, often the dogrose is dried in an electric dryer or oven.
  4. Ready fruits can be kept frozen long enough, the choice of drying method depends on the personal preferences of the hostess.

Method number 1. Natural drying

Natural drying of rose hips

  1. If you do not consider yourself a supporter of household appliances and prefer to dry the wild rose in a natural way, you need to find the right place without exposure to direct ultraviolet rays.
  2. Lay out the wooden pallets in the attic (balcony, loggia), place sheets of paper on them, then place the rosehip in one layer. The room should be well ventilated.
  3. Once every 2 days, turn over the berries and monitor the degree of their drying. When the fruits reach readiness, when pressed, they will split into pieces (not crumbs).

Method number 2. Drying in the sun

  1. As mentioned earlier, drying in this way adversely affects the final product, destroying almost all the useful elements. However, if you neglect the rule, use a simple instruction.
  2. Spread the landscape sheets or plastic film in a sunny place (for example, on the windowsill), lay out the berries, leave to dry completely.
  3. Turn the fruit over periodically to dry evenly. The structure of the berries will tell you about the readiness of the product: with a slight pressure, the shell will fall apart.

Method number 3. Drying with household appliances

  1. Oven. Dogrose is not necessary to wash. Before putting the fruits on a baking sheet, peel them from twigs, garbage, rotten berries. Spread the berries evenly over the entire surface. Preheat the oven to 55 degrees. Put the fruit in the oven for 8 hours. Slightly open the door. Stir the pan without sticking.
  2. Electric dryer. Clean the fruit of extraneous debris, remove the stalk. Put the berries in a lattice pan. Set the device for 6 hours, temperature - 70 degrees. Periodically open the lid, check how the process is going. The berry structure will tell you about the readiness of the rosehip, they will break, but not crumble. If necessary, increase the duration of the procedure.

Method number 4. Drying the leaves and roots of rose hips

  1. Rosehip is famous for the usefulness of petals and roots. Leaves are often used for herbal gatherings, tinctures, teas, medicinal decoctions are brewed on their basis. Raw materials are collected at the time of rapid flowering of the bush. Perform the procedure on a sunny day.
  2. To dry, spread the leaves a short distance from each other. Place them in a well-ventilated area, without direct UV exposure. When the leaves become brittle, place them in a glass container. Close the jars tightly with lids, put them in a dark place.
  3. The roots are recommended to be harvested in late autumn, when the shrub has already lost its leaves and fruits. Separate not the central, but the small roots, otherwise the bush will die. Clean the raw materials from dirt and send to dry. A decoction based on roots is used for kidney stones.
  4. Preparing the drug is quite simple. Take 60 gr. chopped dried roots, pour 230 ml. cool water. Bring the composition to a boil in a small saucepan, simmer another 20 minutes. After that, let the broth cool, strain with a gauze cloth.
  5. Divide the resulting infusion into 3-4 parts, take it during the day before meals. The duration of the drug is 10 days. In the case of more serious problems, extend the course for 3-4 days.
  6. There is a downside to taking medication. After a few days, you can feel severe migraines, nausea, dizziness, pain in the kidney area. In this case, it is worth reducing the amount of infusion taken by 2 times, and divide the course into 3 parts.

  1. It's no secret that it is better to exclude fruits affected by worms, but we are not looking for easy ways. In the process of harvesting rose hips, parasites will crawl to the surface, making the fetal cavity suitable for further manipulations.
  2. Worm berries can ripen when fertilizers are washed away by a sharp rain, and worms affected 85% of the crop. You have to be content with the raw materials that are available.
  3. First of all, get rid of rotten berries that can no longer be saved. Next, pour the remaining instances into a container filled with cool water, leave the dogrose for 2-4 hours.
  4. Most worms will leave the fetal cavity. Change fluid every 30 minutes; do not allow parasites to freely swim in water with berries.
  5. Cut all the berries in half and peel the remaining parasites. Rinse the rose hips thoroughly, put on a towel to dry. In this case, vitamins will remain much less than in whole berries.
