How to make distilled water at home

Water purified from impurities is widely used in various fields of life. It is required for medicinal purposes, for drinking, adding to aquariums, irons, as well as watering plants. Such a liquid can be purchased, but it is easier to prepare it yourself. It does not require the use of special equipment. It is enough to familiarize yourself with the procedure for performing all actions.

How to make distilled water

Distillation is a process in which the removal of minerals, chemical impurities from water occurs. You can get such a liquid at home in various ways. It is recommended to distill tap water by evaporation, freezing. No less effective is the process of turning pure rainwater into drinking water, which is also called the distillation method for the lazy.

Before you begin the basic steps of turning tap water into a home environment, you should start preparing it.

Highlights of preparation

Take a certain amount of water from the tap, leave for a while on the side for sedimentation. The top of the liquid container must not be covered. To prevent debris or dust from entering the water, put the pan in a special place. It could be a bathhouse. You can’t move the pan from place to place.

Plain cold water must be defended. This is necessary so that the liquid is purified from the compound of chlorine, hydrogen sulfide. Such a process takes a couple of hours. All kinds of salts, impurities, gradually sink to the bottom of the tank, filled with liquid.

The whole process of settling lasts for 6 hours. At the same time, a tube is immersed in water. With its tip dipped in liquid, it should touch the bottom of the pan. Using a tube, 1/3 of the water from the bottom of the tank should be decanted. So the water settles and is ready for distillation.

Method 1. The evaporation process

This method requires: a pan (stainless steel) with a domed lid, deep glass dishes, a special grill from a gas oven, a bag of ice or pure snow, tap water.

  1. The settled water is poured half into an appropriate container, then put on fire.
  2. Take glass deep dishes. Put it in a pot of water. The glass bowl should adhere freely to the surface of the liquid. This is a prerequisite for a proper evaporation process. If this does not happen, then a special grate from the gas oven is placed at the bottom of the pan. Thanks to such a stand, the glass vessel will be afloat.
  3. Cover the pan from above with a dome-shaped lid, turning it with the convex side inward of the container.
  4. After a certain time, the water begins to boil, then evaporate.
  5. So that the process of condensation of water vapor goes faster, a pre-prepared bag containing ice is laid out on the lid of the container (you can use snow or containers with a highly cooled liquid).
  6. The resulting water vapor will gradually rise towards the cold lid. As a result of this process, droplets of already purified liquid will appear. They will begin to fall over the convex part of the lid directly into the glass bowl.
  7. After a short period of time, the bowl is filled with distilled liquid.

Method 2. Turning raindrops into distilled water

Distilled water can be prepared from raindrops for various purposes, including for drinking. This method is considered the simplest, designed for lazy people. After all, rainwater itself is distilled.

Using this method of purification is not recommended for residents of large cities where the air is polluted. This is best done in the countryside. It is also worth remembering that you cannot collect the first drops of rain. They are dirty and therefore unsuitable for the process of purification, further use.

  1. Leave a large capacity in the rain for two days. This time is enough for the minerals to completely dissolve in water.
  2. The collected rainwater must be stored in a perfectly clean container.

Recommendation
Tap water may be unclean. Therefore, it is not used for aquariums. Only distilled liquid is used. It is mixed with certain chemical compounds to maintain life in the aquarium.

Method 3. Laboratory at home

There is another simple method for producing distilled liquid at home, which resembles the process of purification in laboratories. This requires: a pair of bottles: one with a straight neck, and the other with a curved one, a stainless steel container, tap water.

  1. They take the bottles, sterilize them, and begin the cleaning process.
  2. A bottle with a curved neck is half filled with settled water.
  3. Connect both bottles with their necks, wrapping them tightly together with adhesive tape. Important! One bottle must be with a curved neck to prevent purified water from entering the other bottle.
  4. Take a capacity of 20 liters with hot boiled water. A bottle of settled liquid is placed in it. Tilt it at an angle of 30 degrees. While holding an empty bottle on the outside of the pan. This angle of inclination facilitates the collection of evaporated purified water.
  5. An ice pack is placed on an empty bottle. This is necessary to create a cold barrier. It will accelerate the process of condensation of steam from a filled bottle into a cold one.
  6. They continue to engage in water purification until the required amount of liquid is collected.

Recommendation
Experts do not recommend drinking distilled water for treatment. It tastes unpleasant and is used mainly for technical purposes.

To use purified water for drinking, you need to structure it. To do this, use the freezing method. The result is water with beneficial properties. It can be drunk for 8 hours. After this time, the liquid again becomes useless.

For treatment, you need to take such water for 6 months, drinking 200 ml 30 minutes before eating or 2-3 hours after eating.

Method 4. The process of freezing

For this method of obtaining purified water, it is required: glass containers or a plastic bottle (if there are none, metal utensils are selected), tap water.

Distilled ice water

  1. Take the appropriate container, fill it with a previously prepared settled liquid, place it in the freezer. If you choose aluminum or cast iron dishes for freezing, then you need to substitute cardboard or plywood under it. This is done so that the container does not freeze to the bottom of the freezer.
  2. From time to time, check the condition of the water in the freezer. It should not be completely frozen.
  3. The capacity is taken out of the freezer at the moment when the water is half-frozen.
  4. Non-frozen liquid is no longer needed as it contains salts and chemicals.
  5. The ice formed must be thawed at room temperature. The water obtained by this method will be completely purified from all kinds of impurities and chemicals.

Recommendation
You can really save energy if you prepare distilled water in the winter. To do this, the filled tank is placed on the street.

Method 5The process of purifying water with a kettle

For this method, you need to take: a simple kettle, two pans: the first - three-liter for purified water, the second - six-liter for ordinary cold water with a perfectly clean bottom, settled water.

  1. The teapot is filled with settled water, they begin to heat.
  2. A smaller pan is placed next to the kettle. It is needed to collect purified water.
  3. A large container is placed on a smaller container, filled with plain water so that the steam coming out of the teapot spout touches the side of the pot, cools, turns into drops, and then flows into the lower container.
  4. The liquid poured into the kettle begins to boil.
  5. Set the boiling level so that the steam produced by the kettle is directed only to the pan.
  6. This method of obtaining purified liquid lasts half an hour.

Recommendation
Distilled water is allowed to be stored for a long time. A glass container is suitable for this. In plastic containers, water is quickly contaminated.

Using one of the above methods, you can get distilled water at home.

Distilled water is not intended to be drunk! Drink clean, but not distilled water.

Where does such a categorical statement come from? Read Paul Bragg and try it yourself ... and then draw conclusions!

From the brain. There is no salt in distilled water, it will not quench your thirst - worse, in large quantities, it will begin to dissolve those salts and minerals that are already in the body and take them out.
