How to transplant yucca

Yucca - False Palm

In modern times, it’s rare to surprise anyone with exotic plants: they decorate offices, cafes and restaurants, many species can be found in apartments and private houses. Among plants that are buried in flowers, many people prefer unusual green beauties, for example, “false palms”.

Yucca is a plant that came to us from the hot Central America, which got its name due to the fact that at first glance it really looks very much like a not tall tree in the subtropical region. Yucca is not demanding in care, likes moderate watering, and also perfectly disinfects the room from numerous pollution, making the air cleaner. Yucca also has other names - the needle of Adam, the Spanish dagger. In ancient times, in the territories of Mexico and Central America, from the Yucca, the indigenous population made clothes, produced soap and other daily household products.

What does yucca prefer

As already known, yucca is a photophilous and thermophilic plant. If you still can not determine the location of the new plant, we advise you to determine the southern window for it. False palm positively refers to a dry climate, it does not tolerate constant humidity. Spraying can be done no more than 2 times a week, watered as it dries. The main condition for the successful development of yucca is proper utensils and the composition of the earth. Therefore, before transplanting the plant, carefully read this information.

We transplant yucca into a new pot ourselves

We transplant yucca into a new pot

  1. In order to free a plant from a store pot, it is necessary to place it for one hour in a deep basin with water. Water should cover the entire surface of the earth - this is necessary in order to remove all soil from the roots of the plant without damaging the root system.
  2. Next, you need to cut a few leaves from the bottom. Some believe that it is not necessary to remove the lower leaves, however, this is necessary in order to reduce the use of vitamins, and accordingly provide proper nutrition to the top.
  3. After the earth in the store pot is wet, it must be carefully removed - to do this, slightly tarnish the root system, dip it again in clean water. In no case should you damage the root system! From this, the plant can go through a period of adaptation for a long time or not get used to a new place at all.
  4. Prepare a suitable dish: the flower pot should be high, and about three centimeters wide in store.
  5. As a substrate, you can use store soil for dracaena or palm trees. It is also easy to prepare the land of the desired composition yourself. It is worth noting that yucca prefers neutral soils, so when choosing types of filling, you must strictly remember this desire of a "tropical beauty". The ideal land for yucca is one part of humus, two parts of sand, two parts of leaf substrate, two parts of chernozem. Mix everything in a separate bowl.
  6. Before filling the pot with prepared soil, be sure to create a drainage layer. For this, you can use broken brick, polystyrene, pebbles or special store drainage. For successful growth, this layer should be at least 3 cm.
  7. Another condition that should never be neglected: you can dig up the stem of the yucca no more than 2 cm. This affects the growth of the yucca and its stability. If you plant the plant too deeply, you may be saddened by rotten roots; if you place it too high above the ground, the yucca will not hold firmly in the pot.

All these recommendations are relevant if you are going to transplant a palm tree from a purchased substrate on permanent soil. However, the technique of annual transplantation is different from this. If you are transplanting a yucca from a small pot into a bowl of a larger diameter, you must use normal transshipment. To do this, soften the earth, with a sharp knife, free the edges and shift the lump of earth into a new pot. Do not forget about drainage, add the necessary amount of fertile soil, so that the composition of the land is gradually updated.

We transplant the yucca stalk

If you are going to propagate a yucca in a vegetative way, that is, using a shank, you need to know the basic rules for planting a prepared trunk.

We transplant the yucca stalk

  1. After you cut a small stalk from the main plant, be sure to treat the cut site with activated charcoal and a special antibacterial solution.
  2. The cut stalk ideally should be no more than 15 cm. The most optimal option is 12 cm. Its upper part also needs to be processed so that the process of decay does not begin.
  3. Remove the properly treated petiole into a prepared tall vessel with water. As evaporation, water can be added, but it is not recommended to completely pour out water, since with this method the created flora is completely disrupted.
  4. After some time, roots will begin to appear on the handle. Only after their size exceeds 1 cm can a young yucca be transplanted into a pot of earth.
  5. The composition of the earth is exactly the same as for transplanting an adult plant. Not forgetting the drainage, we hold the handle and with careful movements we cover it with earth. Do not ram, but gently pat with your fingers so as not to damage the roots that have appeared.
  6. After transplanting, be sure to water the plant well.

You can transplant yucca yourself. This will not require scientific knowledge and special skills. All you need is your diligence and love for indoor plants.
